The Questions Keep Growing

They have another cruise scheduled and actually have passport cards now. Scheduled to leave in August.

Dad told us that they are going to have to cancel the cruise because money is tight after she retired. We didn't know she had retired. There were talks about her thinking about retiring and mentions of how she was training her replacement.

I told dad that if they cancelled now, they would not get a full refund. He said they would get 85% back. This does not line up with the cruise line's information showing for cancellation within 30-55 days of sailing.

I sent dad the information from their website that shows it is only a 50% refund. I never heard anything back. I am assuming that either she talked her way out of that information or he doesn't care.

He said she paid it off, so why would he care? I guess most of the money would go back to her anyway. Of course, the source of the money to pay off the cruise is questionable.

With all that has happened we keep asking ourselves several questions like

How does dad continue to believe everything she says? Why doesn't dad check up on everything, his own business? Why did he give her access to his account funds again?

I don't believe he is really that gullible but based on his choices and actions it makes me think he is, or he just doesn't care. My thoughts bounce back and forth from, "she is just that manipulative," and "well he's an adult and making his own choices."

It is just sad to me how he chooses her over his own blood family every time.

Also, any time a fight happens between us and her, his reaction is that he just won't come around us anymore. I can't say this for sure, but it makes me feel like he doesn't threaten her like that.

What is it about your children that you could just say you don't want to be around them, also knowing that this affects the relationship with your grandchildren too?

I don't know if I will ever understand how she has such a hold on him.

More questions come up. Does she know how to tell the truth? After the realization that the lies do eventually come to light and backfire, does she really think it is all worth it?
